What are NetSuite Modules and How Do They Work?

NetSuite is known for being a best-of-bread ERP system with an intuitive built-in set of features. More than that, it is the leading Enterprise Resource Planning platform in scalability. NetSuite comes with out-of-the-box basic ERP features for your day to day needs. These are modules that can be added to as you expand your platform to achieve more functionality.

NetSuite modules are essentially sets of feature-rich functionality specific to a particular business process / operational flow.

You can add on features for custom fields, more sophisticated forms and workflows, handling specific business aspects like commissions for sales, dunning management for AR or even HR and Payroll, just to name a few examples.

Think of NetSuite as a lego set that you can keep adding pieces (i.e. modules) to in order to scale it up and shape it to adapt to your organization’s increasing needs.

List of Core NetSuite Modules:

What’s the Difference Between NetSuite Modules and NetSuite Advanced Modules?

NetSuite Advanced Modules are upgraded versions of NetSuite’s Core Modules with enhanced features for more complex business processes.

If the base version of a module isn’t enough to satisfy some of your organization’s complex challenges, the Advanced Modules will be able to take your ERP capabilities to that required next level of performance.

Advanced Modules are not always a necessary upgrade, as the core basic ones are geared to accomplish most general tasks that your organization will have. However, if your team finds that they need to upgrade and find themselves lost or confused by some of the details and variances (especially for new NetSuite users), we recommend talking to your NetSuite Partner - or contacting GURUS Solutions with any questions that you might have.

NetSuite Add-Ons vs. Modules: What’s the Difference?

What’s the difference between NetSuite add-ons and NetSuite Modules? This comes down to nomenclature. Add-Ons are developed by NetSuite Partners to complement and enhance the NetSuite ERP experience and native set of functionalities for organizations using their system. NetSuite Modules (also referred to as “add-on” modules) are more or less complete systems on their own that will add new functionality to your ERP system.

Some NetSuite add-ons, like the NetSuite Data Exporter are free and easily available online. However, we recommend discussing with your NetSuite Partner and seeking professional guidance when installing a new add-on for your ERP.

How much do NetSuite modules cost?

The cost of NetSuite basic and advanced modules, as well as add-ons, will vary based on your selection. Every organization is unique and there is no one-size fits all solution. That’s the core reason why NetSuite modules and add-ons work "à la carte", which means you can add them to your system, upgrade them or remove them at any point in your subscription to NetSuite’s Cloud Based system.

NetSuite modules are licensed to users and can be chosen individually for a unique requirement or bundled together by industry as pre-packaged modules. For new ERP implementations, GURUS actually offers industry packages that will include all of the core NetSuite modules, in addition to modules that are typically used by that specific industry.
