Let’s start off with the basics: what are NetSuite modules?

NetSuite is a cloud based ERP system that comes with a comprehensive set of base features. It has a modular infrastructure allowing you to add modules relevant to your business on top of what you get out of the box. It means that your NetSuite platform can easily and quickly adapt to your growing business needs.

These features, built by NetSuite, can be added to your system during or anytime after your ERP implementation with mouse click. They are called “NetSuite Modules”.

NetSuite has built those modules over the years to fill the unique needs of businesses for their specific industries.

You can choose from a list of over 30 NetSuite modules to enhance your system depending on your needs.

Here are a few examples.

The Advanced Inventory module adds landed cost, bin management, serialized items and bar coding.

The Advanced Revenue Management module turns on the advanced revenue recognition features, and allows you to ensure compliance with accounting standards like ASC 605, 606 & IFRS 15

You can learn more about these advanced modules on our website, where we list the most popular NetSuite modules across all major industries. You can find the link in the description below.

How do NetSuite Modules work?

NetSuite is essentially constructed as a set of pre-packaged modules that are considered essential. When you choose your ERP package, you can build and price it based on which modules you need to start with - you can actually do this and build your own estimate easily by using the NetSuite Price Calculator on our website.

Because of NetSuite’s Software as a Service (or SAAS) model, you can easily add new features as you go.

So what’s the difference between NetSuite Modules and NetSuite Add Ons?

NetSuite’s greatest strength is in its massive partner ecosystem. You might have heard a number of terms mentioned online around NetSuite “add ons” or “add on modules” - there are many variations and this comes down to how different NetSuite partners choose to market their products.

However, NetSuite Add Ons will generally refer to partner products that have been created with a specific user need in mind. These can include everything from extensions for Google, such as GURUS’ own NetSuite Data Exporter, to more industry-specific add-ons from software vendors that work cohesively with NetSuite.

Here are some examples:

Avalara for Tax Management embeds itself within Netsuite forms
Blue Ridge’s Supply Chain Planning solutions will bi-directionally integrate, and exchange data with NetSuite

You can find a link to take a look at our recommended NetSuite add-on partners for both general purposes and industry-specific needs on our add-ons page.

The term add ons can also be a way to refer to ‘NetSuite friendly’ products that can be integrated like Salesforce CRM, Hubspot, Pardot, and so forth.

If you decide to look into add ons or adding new modules to NetSuite, I recommend discussing your project with a NetSuite Partner to ensure a seamless activation or integration.
